When you hear people talking about scholarships, they almost always refer to GPA-based scholarships or sports-based scholarships. You’ve probably also heard about scholarships being given out to those who wish to pursue studies in science or mathematics. But, what if the college education you want to gain and the career path you choose to take isn’t exactly mainstream? What if you want to get into the field of costuming, for example? Are there any scholarships you can benefit from in this case?
Fortunately for you, there are a lot of private and non-profit organizations that regularly hold scholarship contests for those interested in pursuing careers that have to do with the arts. Whereas most contests with scholarships as the prize involve writing an essay, there are others where you can actually use your talent in creating art projects such as creative costumes. The Costume Society of America, for one, holds a yearly contest that requires you to submit a proposal for a research project that aims to promote the field of costuming. Your proposal could help you win as much as $3000 in scholarship money.
If you truly believe in your costume-making talent, then you may also want to join the yearly Duct Tape contests. These contests require you to apply with a partner. The goal is to attend your high school prom while wearing an outfit or a set of accessories made primarily out of duct tape. You and your partner could win $2500 each if your entry gets chosen. Of course, the scholarship contests mentioned above are just two examples of the opportunities that await you if you wish to pursue a college education in costuming. There are other opportunities out there just waiting for you to grab them in your pursuit of your dreams.
